Need more information: year of the bike, mileage. If the bike will start then I doubt it is the carb needle. It could be dirt lodged in the idle jet though. That's why I need age of the bike. I sometimes would get gas leaking from the bike when I overfilled the gas tank. Can't figure out the black smoke though. Could be a choke problem. If you can get the bike started, keep the throttle on for a few minutes and see if it will idle after the engine gets warm.
